Online multiplayer gaming has quickly become a cornerstone of modern gaming, often including some of the most beloved titles such as Sea of Thieves or Killing Floor 2. Below are some of the best PlayStation multiplayer titles.

This month’s PlayStation Plus Extra and Essential lineups both include online co-op games. Other great choices include Phasmophobia’s asymmetrical horror gameplay, Rocket League’s chaotic cooking simulator and A Way Out’s gripping prison break-out gameplay.

1. Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV marks a return to form for the franchise, featuring one of its most compelling and rich narratives ever seen in any installment of this beloved series. Additionally, it introduced a flexible job system, powerful summons, and action combat which has come to characterize each Final Fantasy game since 1992.

This game is an absolute visual feast, featuring some of the most breathtaking graphics ever seen in modern gaming. Furthermore, its soundtrack showcases some of the finest musical pieces available across its entire franchise.

The open world of Noctis, Gladiolus and Prompto’s RPG adventure is an engaging experience to discover with plenty of sidequests and hunter contracts to keep players busy. Each character, Noctis, Gladiolus and Prompto is dynamic with engaging dialogue that gives depth to their personalities as you traverse it with Noctis as the guide; great banter with Gladiolus is met by fantastic character development in Comrades (DLC). Comrades may feel like a missed opportunity; only those familiar with RPG Rogue may find much enjoyment here.

2. Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One

All 4 One is a game that abandons much of what made the original Ratchet series great for co-op play, including its varied and innovative level design (such as A Crack in Time ), favoring linearity over creativity in terms of level design. Furthermore, All 4 One takes away many fans’ favourite feature – being able to move and aim your camera using just right stick – thus frustrating them as much as allegiant players would like it.

Four players can co-operatively control Ratchet, Clank, Qwark, and Nefarious in co-op gameplay. Your team can either play locally with multiple controllers or online anonymously; using traditional weapons and gadgets from previous entries while solving environmental puzzles more linear levels are available for use in this adventure game.

3. Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a multiplayer horror game where players take part in terrifying investigations of residential neighbourhoods, farms and lighthouses to identify ghostly presences using various tools available to them.

Fear-themed game with realistic graphics and sounds for an engaging experience. Starting out with basic equipment is sufficient for most tasks; as players level up and complete contracts they will unlock new locations as well as more advanced gear.

One of the game’s greatest highlights is crossplay support between PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC players – this fosters an inclusive community regardless of which platform players prefer.

4. Killing Floor 2

Killing Floor 2 is an enjoyable and engaging co-op shooter that shines on console. While its “games as a service” model may turn some away, with its abundance of DLC available at launch, the game still provides plenty of gameplay if players can manage with its core components.

The gameplay resembles Call of Duty zombies with player classes, level progression, and around 12 different enemy types. Weapons are satisfying to fire while their grotesque enemies look fantastic; all set against an appropriately metallic soundtrack. Playing co-op in this style of gameplay can be highly addicting while DLC levels keep things fresh for some time; plus its gore system creates blood-curdling gore that looks stunning on console.

5. Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight was initially a laggy player-hosted mess at launch; since then however, it has come a long way. It now boasts razor-sharp mechanical intrigue as well as numerous versatile builds with different strengths and weaknesses that complement one another perfectly.

As well as creating an exhilarating competitive scene that delivers nonstop slasher thrills, Overwatch has also produced a truly enjoyable asymmetric multiplayer experience that offers ample asymmetric multiplayer fun. Though sometimes difficult, this multiplayer asymmetry remains undeniable and worth playing for hours on end!

What sets it apart is its open concept that enables players to control any number of survivor and killer characters – from familiar horror movie icons such as Freddy Krueger and Bubba Sawyer from Scream movies – while adding an intense first-person perspective that increases tension in gameplay. For any horror enthusiast it makes an excellent option!
