The three skin types are dry skin, oily skin, and mixed. Dry skin is the most common skin type. It is usually found on the body, especially around the eyes and neck. Oily skin is characterized by excessive oil production, making it look shiny and greasy.
The problem with oily skin is that it clogs pores and causes blackheads on the face and upper chest. Mixed skin has characteristics of both dry and oily types of skin. It tends to be more common in women than men because women have more problems with oil production than men.
No matter what type of skin you have, the basic principles to clearer beautiful skin are:
Moisturize
A moisturizer should be applied to the skin regularly. If you have dry skin, use a moisturizer rich in oil. If you have oily skin, use a moisturizer containing water extracts and antioxidants. Skin that is not adequately moisturized loses its elasticity and becomes dry and flaky.
Sunscreen
You should wear sunscreen every day, even if it is cloudy outside. Sunlight can damage your skin by causing premature ageing, leading to wrinkles and blotchiness. Many different types of sunscreens are available, including chemical and mineral-based products.
A sunscreen with high protection against UVA rays is recommended. Specifically, it would be best to use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. SPF measures the protection of sunscreen. The higher the SPF, the more protection you have.
Exfoliate
Flaky skin can be caused by excessive sweating, waxing, or overusing cleansers. The dead skin cells tend to build up on the skin’s surface. Exfoliation removes this layer of dead skin cells, allowing new ones to come in without the buildup. This will enable you to have healthy-looking skin that is soft and smooth and free from blemishes.
Cleanse for at least 20 minutes twice a week
Use a non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol or soap. Cleansing products with alcohol or soap can dry out your skin, causing it to become cracked and scaly. Always use lukewarm water when cleansing your face so that your pores are open after cleansing allowing the cleanser to enter deep into the pores.
Allow the cleanser to sit on your face for 15 ā 20 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. The longer you leave it on, the better results you will get in clearing up acne, reducing blackheads, and reducing facial wrinkles.
Wash Off Your Make-Up at Night
While you may not be able to control the amount of oil your skin produces, you can control how much oil you allow to be absorbed into your pores. If you have oily skin, removing all your make-up at night is best. You will wake up with soft, healthy-looking skin, and any blemishes you may have will be less noticeable.
Managing Acne
According to Oxford Online Pharmacy, medication for acne and breakouts can be very effective in controlling the problem. Some of the medicines that are usually prescribed include antibiotics, retinoids, and birth control pills.
The antibiotic is a good choice if your acne is moderate to severe and if you have not had success with other treatments. It can help reduce inflammation and bacterial infections in your pores, causing acne. Retinoids are suitable for treating mild to moderate acne caused by overactive oil glands in your skin.
